When women come together... what power
In a time when women are pitied against each other... just look at tv shows where women are put against women; before men are the ones oppressing women, sadly, these days, women are the ones oppressing women.
...it is a comfort to know that there are Biblical stories where women come to help another woman to accomplish God's purpose not only in their lives but in the course of history.
The first story that comes to mind is the story of Ruth and Naomi.
A very familiar story... in fact, Ruth's confession has been used as a wedding vow:
"Don't ask me to leave you! Let me go with you. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God...May the Lord's worst punishment come upon me if I let anything but death separate me from you." Ruth 1:16, 17
When Naomi lost all hope, having lost her husband and sons, she even asked her friends to call her Marah, saying the "Almighty God has made my life bitter," Ruth remained by her side, restored her confidence and helped her gain stature in the community.
At the end of the story, the women in the village praise Naomi, saying,, "A son has been born to Naomi..who will bring new life to you and give you security in your old age."
It is amazing that women now has achieved far more than what women in the past has achieved. Our country has 2 women presidents (we have surpassed USA in this area) and women are holding higher positions in church (UCCP has another woman bishop), educational institutions ( PCU Dasma Colleges have 2 women deans). A woman is our country's Ombudsman. Hah!
Let us use this milestone to uplift fellow women... not be the cause of their suffering.
